Position the person in a comfortable position. Outstretch your open hand, palm side up and tell them “Press on my hand
(4 words)”. Look them in the eyes and say “Close your eyes (7 words). Then wait several seconds.
This is where you need to do many things at once. Pull your hand out from under their pressing hand and in a direct command say “SLEEP (8th word)”. As soon as you say sleep, you have about 2 seconds to start deepening the state. A common deepening technique include “As I rotate you head you feel yourself become more deeper and deeper relaxed” (see videos below).
In addition, you should test for states with simple suggestions.
How/Why It Works:
A conscience mind can only focus on one thing at a time. When you ask a person to press on your hand and close there eyes, they are juggling two things at once. When you suddenly pull your hand out from under their hand, their mind doesn’t know how to react or what to do for that split second. Thats when you fire in the suggestion “SLEEP” quickly followed by deepening. This is called a “Shock Induction”.
have fun but be careful :]
Where can i go to school for a NLP and Hypnotherapy certification?
NLP= neuro linguistic
Hypnotherapy = hypnosis.
I’m going for my PHD in clinical psychology and i want to know where i can find accredited schools for those certificate.
Both areas are heavily litigated due to claims of malpractice and complaints by patients. My recommendation would be to study law so that you can protect yourself from lawsuits and then find places that offer the certificates.

What is the difference between Meditation / Visualization / Hypnosis & merely closing your eyes?
I understand that visualization and hypnosis are conducted under relaxed conditions.
I am reading a book on Creative Visualization (Shakti Gawain) and listening to Hypnosis CD (Glenn Harold) but I would also like to find out about Meditation (which everybody seems to be doing!) and I am curious as there seemed to be a very thin line amongst all? How would I know what are the differences of them as they do seemed to be like merely "closing your eyes and breathing deeply and to be relaxed"?
Meditation is thoughtless and not to focus on some ‘desires’ which you want to manifest in your life? Hmmm…
There are similarities, especially between visualization and hypnosis. Hypnosis includes some visualization techniques but it also has a lot more you can do with it.
Mediation increases your ability to focus and control of you body’s responses.
All three are altered states, but each one has its own strengths and limitations.
